Star Wars vignette 3/4 (The glass)
Shortly before dawn he decided it was time to take the Queen home, she was singing rather loudly with a glass of wine still in her hands.
Obi-Wan apologetically bowed to her companions- who obviously enjoyed Amnil's act- and placing one arm under her shoulders, pulling hers over his own, he headed for the entrance. She giggled constantly, thinking it was a wonderful game they played.
-It is time to go home, my Queen- he just couldn't help it, he was gloating.
-Guess my name!- she looked up from under his arms in a very peculiar, mischievous way.
-Your name is Queen Amnil.
-No no no... - she shook her head violently, pulling both of them off balance.- Guess my real name.
-I dont know.
-Guess!- she insisted. Obi-Wan decided, he did not enjoy this as much as he thought he would. Amnil was even more stubborn than usual.
-I don't know. I won't guess.
-Oh, you stupid, you do know already. My name is Ardenis, you fool... - And she giggled on as they walked out the door. Obi-Wan stopped outside and stared at her in bewildered shock. What she said was nonsense, but still... He signaled for a taxi.
-Obi-Wan- she whispered, her eyes closed, her good mood suddenly gone.- Take the glass.
-It's alright- he sighed- We don't need the wine anymore. You can put it down.- He frowned over the fact that she called him Obi-Wan for the first time.
-No, you have to take it!- She tried to give it to him...
-No, I don't. Put it down.
-I...order... you... to take it- she managed to squeeze it out.
-As you wish, your idiotic Highness- he mumbled angrily, taking the kriffin' glass that she stuffed into his hands. The Queen was quite annoying when she was somber, but even more annoying when she was drunk...
-What happened- she moaned softly against her pillows.
-You had quite a night yesterday, you drank a lot. You might experience headache, weakness, heaving stomach... In other words, you've got the hangover of a lifetime.
Obi-Wan's was slightly amused, mostly angry.
-Why didn't you tell me who you were? Did you enjoy this, making a fool of me?
She tried to sit up, but found herself too weak to accomplish the task.
-What? Oh...- The gowns gone, the make-up gone, the mask gone. She was Ardenis and Amnil. He knew. Perhaps it was better this way.
-I don't even know what I'm talking about, I mean, you only had to drink a bottle of wine to be able to tell me this little secret of yours. Why would I feel betrayed?
-Get over yourself- she mumbled.- It is a necessary security measure, it had nothing to do with you.
-You politicians are unbelievable! It was alright for me to serve you, to protect you, it is alright for me to even give my life for you, it is alright for me to face dangers in you stead, but telling me something like, you know, you change your identity, noo, that has nothing to do with me. Do you think me dying to save someone who I believe to be the Queen but really isn't, would finally have something to do with me? I bet you had a good laugh though, when I talked to you about... yourself, apparently. What the star forsaken hell were you thinking?
There was not much sense in the way he spoke, he was trembling with anger, shouting at her.
-Contain yourself- She whispered not any less angrily, touching her forehead. -I am sorry, but I wasn't allowed to tell. I wasn't allowed to trust anyone...Did you bring my glass with us?
The abrupt change of subject took him off guard. What was this obsession with glasses? His confusion was stronger now than his anger, but he took a few centering breaths anyway, before answering.
-Yes I did. As you ordered.- Centering or not, the ice did not melt from his voice.
She frowned, but chose to ignore his acidic tone.
-Please be so kind and run a toxic-scan on it! You could check the darts too, while you are at it.
He stared wordlessly. The dried remains of the wine shone surrealistically red in the morning light as he slowly raised it up and smelled it. He didn't need any scan to tell him what it was. The scent was unmistakable, so well know from the Temple's healing house.
-Force suppressor sedatives- he whispered.- But...
-What is it?- she asked, fighting bravely with tears of pain and a strange blackness that was taking her eyesight slowly but unstoppably.
-How many of these did you drink- he knelt in front of her, taking her hand, using every technique he learned, to get a hold of her attention. Only now did he pay attention of her in the Force; pain was oozing through the leaks of her weakened mental shields.
-Two- she whispered. Tears were running down her cheeks, but she didn't know of them.- What happened?- she asked again, fighting with all she had, to stay in control.
-You were drugged- He answered, and suddenly her shields were down, her consciousness had gone. Unbearable pain erupted in Obi-Wan's head, but it was only a mere echo of Amnil's.
-Sith begotten son of a...- and he run to get medical aid.
So she wasn't drunk after all. But it still didn't make sense.
